Survivor eliminated the latest contestant on the April 30 episode, and fan-favorite player Star Toomey was the latest casualty. Survivor season 48 has seen the standard twists and turns, but Star’s elimination threw fans for a loop because she’d been playing a respectable game, but she couldn’t seem to gain the alliances she’d need to stay on to compete. Star’s flamboyant personality and not-subtle strategies made fans root for her, but in the end, it wasn’t enough to save her.
Star brought entertainment to this season, and she had some memorable moments, like her off-the-cuff Survivor raps, but she wasn’t featured as heavily as some of the other players.
Her elimination was sad to see since she had to accept that others had been working against her. Nonetheless, she played an interesting game, and she was proud of her run on the show. Read on to get to know more about the now-former Survivor 48 player.
Star Is 28
Lawranz “Star” Toomey was born on September 25, 1996, in Monrovia, Liberia, but currently lives in Augusta, Georgia. According to her student-athlete profile on PacersSports, her parents are Lawrence and Samantha Toomey, and she has two siblings, Lawrence and Hillary. Star told Entertainment Weekly that the death of her father, Lawrence, prepared her to play Survivor because she wants to make him proud.
“I am chasing my dream believing in myself and living and enjoying life as my dad would have wanted. The name of the game is ‘no regrets.'”
In an interview with Parade, Star said that despite outward appearances, she’s very shy and introverted. Star is a married mom and has a son, Silver Mars. She told Entertainment Weekly that she hopes one day, he’ll “also compete and chase the Survivor family legacy I am creating.” In the same interview with Parade, Star said that her son is turning one in July, so she used his birth as an excuse to get out of work to compete on the show.
At 6’1″, Star is a star basketball player, having played at the University of South Carolina. Star also told Entertainment Weekly she wanted to win because she couldn’t go home to her wife without the million-dollar prize: “She’ll change the locks LOL JK.”
Star Toomey’s Job
Star Works In Sales
Star majored in business administration at the University of South Carolina. Today, she works in sales, and her occupation is described as “sales expert.” Star told Parade she’d been working in sales for nearly four years.
“I sell you your internet. I sell you your cell phones and apparels. Like phone cases maybe, if you’re feeling phone casey. A headphone maybe. Whatever I can get out of you, I’m definitely gonna try to sell it.”
Based on her time on the show, Star’s an expert talker and likes to put on a show. Working in sales makes sense, and she’s probably very successful at it. Star has an energy that makes people want to listen to her (except when it comes to who to vote off the show during her elimination episode).
Star Toomey’s Instagram
Star’s Handle Is @StarToomey
Star shared a post on Instagram back in January announcing that she’d be competing on Survivor. In typical Star fashion, she used the post to also share an adorable photo of her son wearing an official Survivor hat. Star has a modest following of just over 4,000 followers, but she’s outspokenly discussed her time on Survivor on her platform. Star has shared many interview clips and posts about the show, and her excitement about competing is palpable.
Star Toomey’s Journey On Survivor So Far
Star Was Voted Off On April 30
Some fans feel Star got a raw deal during her elimination in Survivor. She tried to establish an alliance, which then backfired on her and resulted in her ouster. Star told Entertainment Weekly she felt a lot of the other players were “projecting” on her when they said she couldn’t be trusted or that she was a “chaotic” player. Still, Star was confident and chose to forgo a “shot in the dark” advantage she had, which was a mistake. She also said that her pitch to Mitch Guerra probably wasn’t taken as seriously because she’d commented on his snoring.
Of course, we saw a little prior to that conversation, I was getting on him about his snoring. So I already think he felt a way. I can’t sleep at the island, man! There’s no way. He can go. I couldn’t take it anymore. I only wrote his name down because I couldn’t take the snoring. So, I get why he would write my name down, … but at least my reasoning was because I needed sleep.
Star was so lovable on the show, and fans will likely continue rooting for her in her post-Survivor life. It’s hard to root against someone with such effervescence and zest for life. Here’s hoping Star continues her journey of spreading joy and that, as she said in a Parade interview, the “stars align for Star.”
Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
