“We just had the most heartwarming experience at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Piqua, OH. We stopped there for lunch on our way to Cincinnati Childrens Hospital, per Austin’s request…solely because of their fireplace. Little did I know that our “luck” was just beginning when we were seated at a table right in front of the fireplace! Our server (Rachel) noticed Austin’s excitement with the fireplace, and after taking our drink order, asked him if he wanted to help her build the fire up. She took him over to the barrels of wood & had him help her carry the pieces over to the fire. She demonstrated how to throw it in & encouraged him to try it too. She also turned the gas up to show him how big the flames could get. He was so delighted he couldn’t even talk…just kept jumping up & down & giggling!
Keep in mind, this is during the lunch rush, and I’m sure she had multiple tables to take care of. As we were finishing up, Austin & Shawn walked over tho the gift shop area. Within 2-3 minutes Austin reappeared at the table & asked me if he could get this Minion/Star Wars/candy fan toy (because Shawn had said no). I laughed & told him “no” would be my answer too then. All of a sudden, Rachel appeared out of nowhere & said “Follow me buddy! I’ll buy it for you!” Shawn & I looked at each other in disbelief & then ran to catch up to see if she was serious/thank her.
Sure enough, she was at the register, paying with her own money. Austin was just beaming ear-to-ear! As I thanked her (still in disbelief), I shared that we were on our way to Cinci for a Dr. appointment for Austin and that he really dreads these appointment days. It’s 5 hours in the car round trip & sometimes (just last week) needles are involved with some of his appointments. She quickly shared she has a child that also has appointments at another Children’s hospital. RACHEL – if you’re out there – thanks again from the bottom of our hearts! The small acts of kindness you showed my son truly lifted his spirits & made his day special! I pray that someday a stranger can lift your child’s spirits, just as you did for mine today. ❤ ”
