The world may have changed, but some things never go out of style. Roberto “David” Davidson’s incredible story is a testament to that.
For 42 years, David was a beloved fixture in New York’s West Village, running his shoe and watch repair shop with skilled hands and a big heart. His dream was to pass the shop on to his son, but rising rent and hard times made that impossible.
In 2024, after racking up $65,000 in unpaid rent, David was forced to close his doors for good. But he didn’t quit. Instead, he simply moved his business. Now 79 years old, he sets up shop every Sunday from 1–4 PM, working out of the trunk of his car right outside his old storefront at 508 Hudson Street.
He still fixes soles, heels, and watches with the same care and love he’s always had. The community has rallied around him, starting a GoFundMe to help him finally retire. So far, they’ve raised over $55,000.
Even without a shop, David shows up every week, tools in hand, a living example of hard work, consistency, and a deep love for what he does. His story is a powerful reminder that some things, like kindness and dedication, are timeless.
