Russell O’Grady, was one of the first Australians with Down syndrome to gain full-time employment in 1986. He worked at McDonald’s in Northmead, Sydney, for 32 years.

He retired in 2018 at the age of 50.

“We’ve got regular customers who come in to see Russell on Thursday and Friday, and the staff look after him, so we’re going to miss him,” Courtney Purcell, McDonald’s supervisor, commented.

In a radio interview with Ray Hadley, Russell revealed he now enjoys ten-pin bowling at Castle Hill during his retirement, with a personal best score of 100 points.
