On Mother’s Day this year, my little family and I went to IHOP for breakfast. As we were pulling in, we saw a man sitting by the side of the road holding a sign. Everyone was passing by and ignoring him, but we decided to stop and give him a few dollars. We talked to him for a moment, and he said, “I appreciate the money, but what I really need is a job. All I have is my bike, but I’ll do whatever it takes to work. I’ve had some tough times, and it’s really gotten me down.”

We spent about an hour talking with him. My husband works for a glass company in Southwest Florida called PGT, so we gave him all the information he needed, told him who to talk to, and shared our phone number. The next morning, who does Tyler see? The same man! He had ridden his bike 30 miles to get to PGT. Thirty miles! Tyler took him inside, introduced him to the right people, and helped him fill out an application.

I’m happy to say that this man is now employed and working hard at PGT. Tyler even took him shopping to buy the things he needed for work. It’s amazing to see how just a little support can help someone get back on their feet. I feel so lucky to have a husband who is so selfless. He saw something in this man that others might have missed.

We always teach our kids not to judge people by their appearance and to be kind. This is a perfect example of that. You never know how one simple conversation or kind gesture can change someone’s life. So always be kind. ❤️
