NYC Stylist Spends Sundays Giving Free Haircuts to the Homeless

A Celebrity Stylist With a Mission

Mark Bustos is a well-known hairstylist who works full-time at a high-end salon, where prices begin at $150. Yet every Sunday, his only day off, he walks the streets of New York City offering free haircuts to people experiencing homelessness.

A Simple Offer of Kindness

Mark approaches each person with the same gentle introduction: “I want to do something nice for you today.” On average, he gives about six free haircuts every Sunday. His volunteer work began in May 2012, and as he once shared with the Huffington Post, “The feeling was so rewarding.”

More Than Just a Haircut

These sessions often turn into meaningful conversations. Mark listens, connects, and shares compassion with every individual he meets. A New York City homeless charity has noted that his work helps people imagine a brighter future for themselves.

Inspiring a Movement: #BeAwesomeToSomebody

Beyond the haircuts, Mark has launched a social media initiative called #BeAwesomeToSomebody. “It’s simply a way for all of us to give back as human beings”, he explained. “We all have a special talent, and it’s about sharing what we do best with those who have less.”

A Heart That Makes the World Better

Mark’s compassion illustrates how offering even a small act of service can create positive change. His generosity reminds us that helping those in our community can make the world a more beautiful and hopeful place.
