My Ex’s Mom Still Calls Me Her Son

Even after my ex and I broke up, her mom still visits us often—and she still calls me her son.

When her daughter and I separated, I went to see her in person to tell her. She was heartbroken. We cried, hugged, and promised that our strong bond wouldn’t change, no matter what.

I wanted her to stay close to her grandkids. I didn’t want her to only rely on her daughter to see them. We have three children, and the baby in the photo is from my current relationship.

But honestly, I also just wanted her in my life.

We are very different people:

– She’s a devoted Catholic. I’m an atheist.
– She grew up in a rural area. I grew up in a big city.
– She reads the Bible. I read books about neuroscience.

She’s not into business. She doesn’t use Facebook. She doesn’t speak English. (Thankfully, I speak Spanish.)

She’s a quiet, humble woman who has faced more pain than most of us can imagine. Yet, somehow, she stays kind, warm, and full of love.

She didn’t become bitter—she opened her heart even more. She continues to give love, care, and comfort to everyone around her.

After our baby was born, she came to cook for us. She’s someone I know I can call anytime, no matter what.

This post is to honor her.

We often praise celebrities, businesspeople, or athletes.

But what about people like her? People who stay out of the spotlight but quietly make the world better every day.
