JUST IN: Former GOP Rep. Joe Walsh Officially Becomes A Democrat.
Former Republican Rep. Joe Walsh announced on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025, that he is formally affiliating with the Democratic Party, marking the end of his five-year streak as a political independent after leaving the GOP in 2020.
Walsh explained that he sees the Republican Party as a threat to democracy and the rule of law. He believes that defeating the GOP requires a wide-ranging coalition and is joining the Democrats with the goal of helping to defeat his former party.
Walsh dropped out of the presidential race on February 7, 2020, after a poor showing in the Iowa caucus, and subsequently left the party. He later endorsed and voted for Democratic nominee Joe Biden, who won the election, and formally joined the Democratic Party in 2025.
