In Minneapolis, families facing Alzheimer’s and dementia find light in a unique choir called the Giving Voice Chorus. Each week, patients and caregivers gather to sing together.
For some, words are hard to form, but music unlocks them. One retired nurse said the choir gives her husband “one good hour.” Another member, who hadn’t sung since high school, now knows every chorus. After practice, they share cookies, laughter, and rides home.
It isn’t a miracle cure—but it is belonging. In each note, they rediscover dignity, comfort, and connection. For them, music is more than sound—it is memory, breath by breath.
