Every morning, I’d see this little guy on my way to school. He couldn’t have been more than a few months old—tiny, scrappy, and always waiting by the same spot as if to say hi. Even from a distance, I could tell there was something special about him. He was missing most of his tail, but it never seemed to slow him down. He’d chase leaves, roll in the dirt, and look up at me with the most trusting eyes.
One morning, I couldn’t stand leaving him there anymore. I scooped him up, brought him home, and gave him a meal, a warm bed, and a name.
Now he’s my little shadow—curious, playful, and full of life. He greets me when I get home, curls up on my lap during homework, and somehow makes every day a little brighter.
He may have lost part of his tail, but he gained a whole new life—and I gained a best friend who makes every trip to and from school feel like coming home.
