After being beaten and missing for a week, she was found near Bita Genet, guarded by three lions. They had apparently chased off her captors and remained with her before the police arrived. After that, they quietly returned to the forest.

A wildlife expert suggested the girl’s crying may have sounded like a lion cub, prompting the animals to protect her instead of harming her.
