A dog named Thor, from São Paulo, Brazil, endured a terrifying ordeal after being attacked by a porcupine, leaving his face and body covered in hundreds of painful quills.
A Desperate Plea for Help
Thor’s owner, Adriano Bertoline, who is currently unemployed and caring for four children, was devastated when he discovered his dog injured. With no way to cover the veterinary bills, he turned to social media in a plea for assistance, posting photos of Thor’s injuries and asking for help from anyone who could offer it.

“Good morning, folks… I woke up this morning to find my dog in this condition… Is there a clinic or veterinarian that can help him? I’m afraid I can’t pay”, he wrote.
A Local Councillor Steps In
Adriano’s plea quickly reached the attention of Dr. Jose Roberto Apolari, a local councillor, who decided to step in and help. Dr. Apolari personally transported Thor to a veterinary clinic and contributed toward the cost of his treatment.

Adriano later called the councillor “an angel”, expressing deep gratitude for the support he received during such a difficult time.
Not Thor’s First Encounter with a Porcupine
Shockingly, this is the second porcupine attack Thor has suffered within a year. In February 2021, the three-year-old dog endured a similar incident and was treated at a private veterinary clinic with the help of Adriano’s friend, who worked there at the time.

The most recent attack left quills embedded in Thor’s face, ears, legs, and nose – a painful reminder of how dangerous these encounters can be.
Owner Overwhelmed With Gratitude
Adriano emphasized how critical the councillor’s help was, especially during a time of financial hardship.

“I’m now unemployed, and I have four children at home”, he wrote on Facebook. “I couldn’t afford private veterinary care. Dr. Apolari helped us when we needed him most.”
While Thor received immediate care thanks to the community’s compassion, the condition of the porcupine involved in the incident remains uncertain.
