Within reach Two Mets named Gold Glove finalists with chance to snap 10-year drought

The Mets have two candidates to snap a Gold Glove drought that spans over a decade.

David Peterson and Luis Torrens were named as finalists Wednesday for the awards — the winners of which will be announced next month.

Juan Lagares was the last Mets player to win a Gold Glove award, in 2014.

Peterson’s quickness off the mound has helped establish him as one of the game’s top fielding pitchers in recent seasons.

The catcher Torrens is exceptional throwing out runners: he ranked in MLB’s 100th percentile this season by throwing out 12 base stealers above average, according to Statcast.

Matthew Boyd and Logan Webb are the other NL finalists at pitcher: Carson Kelly and Patrick Bailey are the other NL finalists at catcher.
