At the restaurant, an elderly woman sat in a wheelchair, her frail hands trembling as she tried to eat. Every bite was a struggle—food slipping, small noises escaping—but her daughter stayed by her side, gently feeding her mother with endless patience. The woman looked to be in her nineties, fragile yet dignified.

I did my best to serve them with care, making sure they felt at ease, even while other guests looked away in discomfort. To me, she wasn’t a burden; she was someone’s mother, someone’s whole world.

When it was time for them to leave, the daughter walked over and wrapped me in a hug. Her voice broke as she whispered, “Thank you for treating my mom like anyone else. The doctors have given her only a week. This was her last wish—to eat at a restaurant again.

That moment stayed with me. It wasn’t just about serving food—it was about giving a woman, in her final days, the dignity of being seen and cared for. And giving a daughter the gift of one more ordinary, beautiful meal with her mother.
