“Today, my dad had to make the heartbreaking choice to let me go. I had a wonderful time at my party on Sunday, but it was time for me to return home. That night, I developed a fever, and my dad stayed by my side, making sure I drank water and got plenty of rest. By Monday night, though, I started losing control of my bladder. On Tuesday morning, we went to the hospital to see if antibiotics could help.
The doctor ran tests and found my red blood cell count and platelet levels had dropped sharply. Two weeks ago, my red blood cells were at 28% and improving, but today they were down to 12%. My platelets, which were at 29k two weeks ago, had fallen to just 6k. Meanwhile, my white blood cell count was rising. Normally, the doctors would comfort my dad, reassuring him I wasn’t in pain and that we still had options, but this time, they told him I was suffering.
That’s when my dad made the hardest choice of his life. Treating me would have cost a lot for a temporary fix, and we’d already tried that once before—it only worked for two weeks. So today, my dad chose to let me go.
But it’s okay—please don’t worry. I’m no longer in pain, and I know my dad will be alright. When I fell asleep, he took off my collar and now wears it as a wristband. He’s hurting, but he promised me he’ll rescue another beagle in my honor.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You’ve been such a loving family to me, and my dad will never forget your kindness. We shared amazing times and made so many wonderful memories. Thank you for everything.”
