A Husky With a Courageous Heart
Serenity, a 4-year-old Siberian husky, may look different from other dogs, but her spirit is just as bright, and her excitement for life is impossible to miss. Despite her unusual appearance, she radiates joy, bathing in the affection she has finally found.
Originally a stray wandering the streets of San Antonio, Texas, Serenity struggled to find a permanent home because of a large facial tumor that significantly altered her appearance.
A Rescue That Changed Everything
Thankfully, Dallas Dog Rescue Rehab Reform stepped in, giving Serenity a second chance by bringing her to Dallas for the care, safety, and love she deserved.
When foster mom Patti Dawson first met Serenity, she immediately noticed the dog’s natural happiness. Serenity rushed toward her with eager kisses and a wagging tail, craving human connection and warmth.
A Difficult Diagnosis, but a Hopeful Spirit
While Serenity’s love for life was undeniable, her medical condition was severe. The tumor had grown extensively, affecting the bones of her face, her nasal cavity, her eye sockets, and portions of her skull.
Miraculously, Serenity could still see, breathe, and eat, despite the tumor’s size.
Although many worry she must be in pain, Dawson assures supporters that Serenity has shown no signs of discomfort so far. She remains observant, knowing this may change in the future.
“We didn’t get the news we hoped for, but that doesn’t mean we’ll stop loving her or giving her the life she deserves,” Dawson said.
Making Every Day Count
Determined to fill Serenity’s life with joy, Dawson makes each day special. Serenity enjoys delicious meals, constant affection, and plenty of playtime, ensuring her remaining time is filled with warmth and happiness.
To help fund Serenity’s care, Dawson invited photographer Renee Dowhaniuk to capture the husky’s resilient spirit through a series of portraits designed to inspire donations.
An Internet Sensation With an Unbreakable Spirit
Dowhaniuk’s photos spread across social media, and Serenity quickly became an online sensation.
“I don’t believe in sad pictures”, the photographer said. “I aim to show an animal’s true spirit.”
And Serenity’s spirit shines. The moment she stepped out of the car for her photoshoot, she was sniffing excitedly, her tail wagging with enthusiasm.
The response was incredible, over 300 packages arrived for Serenity, filled with treats, toys, and gifts. Each delivery brought joy to the lovable husky who had captured so many hearts.
Love Until the Very End
Dawson knows that one day, Serenity will let her know when she is ready to say goodbye. Until that moment comes, Serenity will continue to live a life overflowing with love, comfort, and care in her foster home.
