Reporter: “Should a small town clerk who only works three days a week be making a six-figure salary? That is the question here in Hudson Township tonight. That is a township of about 8,000 people in Western Wisconsin. The town clerk works Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and is making $104,000 per year. The new township chairman raised these concerns at a recent town hall meeting. He says he did a wage study, he analyzed what other clerks in similar-sized townships across Wisconsin are making, and the clerk here is making about double, and he says it’s also comparable to what the governor of the state of Wisconsin makes per hour, comes out to about $84 an hour. We tried to ask the current clerk for her take on the workload and the pay, but the town hall is not open on Thursdays so we could not get her opinion. However, again, we did sit down with the township chairman, who entered his position in April. He says the town board is going to talk about this. They’re going to go into a closed session with their legal counsel and try to figure out how this happened to begin with and what the next steps could be. We will be tracking it, and we’ll keep you updated.”
