Meet Nick Bonness, and one of our newest officers, Clay Mason. Nick works the night shift as a security guard at the front entrance to the Stonewolf Golf Course community. Nick walks from his home in Belleville to work each night he is scheduled, which is approximately 3 hours one-way. Many officers have given Nick rides when it is raining or snowing but Officer Mason took it one step further. He came to work this past Saturday night with a brand new bicycle for Nick. When his Sergeant asked what he was doing with it, he said he was going to wait until Nick got off work and give it to him so that he could ride it to and from work. Officer Mason also bought lights for the bike and installed them since Nick would be riding at night. True acts of kindness come in all shapes and forms, many go unnoticed. We felt Officer Mason’s generosity could not go ignored, although Officer Mason was reluctant to tell anyone about his gift or have his picture taken. Officer Mason is a true asset to the Fairview Heights Police Department and our community.
