Forty Belgian Malinois dogs were rescued from a small, filthy apartment in Queens, New York City earlier in May. The dogs were malnourished and had likely spent their entire lives in total confinement, never experiencing the outdoors.

Rescuers found adult dogs and puppies filling hallways, hidden in cabinets, and crammed behind furniture. Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) worked with the ASPCA to remove all dogs and provide medical evaluation and treatment.

Many of the rescued dogs were frightened and shut down from lack of socialization. One dog named Sammie was so terrified he couldn’t walk until being reunited with other dogs from the apartment.

Multiple rescue organizations stepped in to help place the dogs in foster homes until they are well enough to be adopted.
