During the filming of Seven Years in Tibet in 1996, Brad Pitt spent several weeks on the streets of Mendoza, Argentina. There he not only played a rebellious mountaineer; he also became, without looking for it, the unexpected hero of many who had no voice: the stray dogs.

One of them was White, a skinny, scared greyhound who timidly approached the filming set. Pitt saw him, he bent down, he stroked him.. and from that moment on, they didn’t part.

But White wasn’t the only one. Brad rescued thirteen dogs in total during that season. He bought them food, took them to the vet and, one by one, looked for families who could care for them with dignity. Three of them traveled with him to Buenos Aires and stayed in an exclusive suite of the five-star hotel where he was staying. And when filming was over, they flew him to Los Angeles. Since then, they became part of their family.

Hollywood is full of stars. But it’s these off-camera stories—silent, honest, and deeply human—that remind us who’s really worth it.
