Breanna Bortner, 31, found a lump in her breast in 2023. She also noticed her normally calm cockapoo, Mochi, obsessively sniffing and focusing on the affected breast.

This unusual behavior alerted her to the seriousness of the issue. A biopsy later confirmed stage 2B triple-negative invasive ductal carcinoma – a challenging type of breast cancer.

Bortner underwent 16 rounds of chemotherapy over five and a half months.

“Everything about [chemotherapy drugs] is scary. I found that calling them ‘healing sessions’ instead of chemotherapy was better for me,” she commented.

Mochi became her emotional anchor during treatment, motivating her to stay active and offering comfort during tough times. Now nearly a year out of treatment, Bortner runs a blog, “Brave Beautiful Boobies,” to support others facing cancer.
