At Tuesday’s anti-ICE blockade in Lower Manhattan, a cordon of mostly white activists stopped traffic while a Black single mom begged to drive through so she could reach her job and provide for her child. A female protester brushed her off—“I know … and these people are having their children taken away,” she said, before adding, “I can’t help you.” When Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez asked the group how it felt to keep a Black woman from working, a white male protester dripped sarcasm: “Oh no, not work. I care so much,” he sneered, prompting laughter from his comrades. Forced to reverse and find another route, the mom’s plight—captured on video—has gone viral as a snapshot of activists privileging street theater over a working parent’s livelihood.
