As Seattle’s Lumen Field recently hosted several matches for the Club World Cup, drawing international attention and soccer fans to the city, concerns have been raised regarding the conditions encountered by visitors in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.
According to a post by Jonathan Choe via X, fans arriving for the matches were met with what he described as a landscape featuring “dozens of RV’s, tent encampments, and open air drug use” in the SODO neighborhood surrounding the venue. Choe pinpointed the area “From 3rd Ave to Utah Ave” as particularly affected.
Choe contends that the vehicles and encampments observed are the same ones that have been subject to repeated clearing efforts by Mayor Bruce Harrell’s administration. Despite these efforts, he claims the issue persists, arguing that after nearly four years in office, Mayor Harrell “remains clueless on how to handle this unending street crisis.”
