A few weeks ago, my daughter Chelsea got really sick. My wife had to go to work, and Chelsea had a fever and couldn’t keep anything down. I had to send the babysitter home and miss work! I called the pediatrician, who gave me a list of things to help keep Chelsea hydrated. She was doing okay, so I decided to go to Meijer to pick up what we needed. Chelsea was being so good—no whining or crying—just acting like a typical 19-month-old! Since she was so well-behaved, I treated her to a new stuffed animal that she held onto during our trip.
But things took a turn when we got to the baby food aisle. Chelsea looked up at me, tears in her eyes, and then she threw up all over me, herself, and the aisle. There I was, covered in vomit, trying to comfort my crying baby while still needing to grab her Pedialyte and other things. I was pushing the cart with one hand and holding her with the other, when she threw up again, covering both of us and the aisle once more. Instead of helping, people just stared, and a crowd started to form—can you believe that?
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw what looked like an employee. With my voice shaking and tears in my eyes, I asked her, “Ma’am, could you please help me check out? I need to get her home.” Without hesitation, she said, “Yes sir, absolutely,” and offered to hold my daughter, even though she was covered in vomit, so I could take off my coat and Chelsea’s.
Then she said, “Follow me, and we’ll get you sorted out. I’ll take care of you.” It felt like such a relief! Here was someone who not only was willing to help, but she didn’t hesitate to hold my messy, crying child. Chris K, you truly are an angel! You helped me in a way I can’t fully explain, and I’ll always remember your kindness. You’re amazing, and I hope Meijer knows they have a rock star on their team! Please share this so she can get the recognition she deserves for being such a fantastic person and an incredible Meijer employee! Please like and share!
