My partner found him outside — alone, trembling, so very small. He didn’t bark, didn’t run. He just stood there, frozen in fear, his eyes wide like the world had already let him down.

When he was picked up, he didn’t resist. He simply leaned in, as if he was too exhausted to run, and too hopeful not to believe. Since then, he hasn’t left our side.

He stays close, silent, always watching. Like he’s still unsure whether this safety, this love, could really be his.
