Why do people ask for crochet gifts they don’t actually want? Someone I considered a friend saw a crocheted golden retriever play set I made for my granddaughter and offered to pay me to make one for her. She has a golden retriever and I said I’d do it for free because I had leftover yarn and even got a custom tag with her dog’s name.

I made the set in this photo, which also has the dog I made for my granddaughter. The supposed friend said she would invite me to over for brunch so I could give her the set, but two months went by with no invite. I then invited her to my house for brunch and the gift.

Although I invited her a week in advance and she accepted, at 10:30 pm the night before she sent a curt text saying, β€œSorry, I hate to do this but I need to take a rain check.” In another text, she said she had several errands to do. Apparently these could only be done at the exact time of the brunch!

I was extremely offended and gave the set to my niece who just had a baby. Still fuming! Anyone else had something like this happen? What would you do on this scenario? If she ever mentions the dog again, should I tell her I gave to someone else? TIA for any thoughts or support!
