While he was receiving treatment he got a type of fungal infection which spread to his lungs and his face and that resulted in surgery to remove his upper lip. After two months, the infection cleared up and he was out of the ICU. As of September 2019, AJ is in remission! He’s been through so much in his short years and deserves so much better. This year he will be receiving plastic surgery for his upper lip
