An illegal immigrant who has been living in the U.S. for over a decade and operates as an unlicensed street vendor breaks into tears, fearing deportation if she continues her business.
Lydia: (crying) I can’t do this anymore. I’m so scared. Please, don’t show my face… I don’t want to leave my home, but I have no choice.
Reporter: Are you scared to leave your home?
Lydia: (nodding) Yes, I’m scared.
“It feels like you’re trapped in your home because if you go outside, you’re risking getting taken away by ICE.”
Lydia: We only go out if it’s absolutely necessary. It’s so overwhelming, the sadness…
Reporter: So you have a sign on your window that says, ‘This house does not open for ICE’?
Lydia: Yes. We have our rights posted right here, so we know what to do if they come.
