OMG, Adam Schiff just put out a public advisory warning people that it’s going to get hot IN THE SUMMER!๐๐๐๐๐๐๐
From Adam Schiff:
– “Today is the first day of summer, and if you’re planning to spend it outdoors, there’s danger on the horizon.”
– “Okay, the danger I’m talking about is not a danger of a shark attack or even a sharknado. It is a climate-related danger facing the American people, and that is, it’s going to be hot, and it’s going to get hotter.”
– “Just last week in Southern California, we had temperatures in the low 100s. We can expect temperatures like that and potentially worse in many parts of the country.”
– “So, our climate is getting more severe, our summers are getting hotter, the dangers are becoming more pronounced from climate change, and what the administration did this week makes the danger even worse.”
– “Let me explain, so you’ve been hearing about this, what the President calls ‘one big beautiful bill and it will be the biggest bill ever passed in our country’s history,’ what I call a ‘big ugly betrayal.'”
– “But you’ve been hearing about this billโwell, the Finance Committee in the Senate just released their portion of the bill, and their portion of the bill attacks these tax credits that were providing an incentive to invest in renewable energy.”
– “So, the tax credits that helped the solar industry and helped people put solar panels on their home or helped us manufacture solar panels or have solar fields, they go after wind turbines and wind projects, they go after geothermalโthey basically go after just about any renewable energy source that isn’t oil or gas.”
– “And the net effect of repealing these tax credits is that your energy costs are going to go up. Your utility bill is going to go up. It’s already going up and it’s going to go up a lot faster because as there is increased demand for electricity from data centers, as there is increased competition for energy resources, to take all these renewable projects offline as the Trump administration wants to do is going to make us more and more reliant on oil and gas, it’s going to push up those utility bills, it’s going to push up prices at the pump because there’s not going to be the competition that we need for energy.”
– “So why is the Republican Party doing this? Why is Donald Trump doing this? Well, you’ll remember back in the Trump campaign, Donald Trump promised a bunch of wealthy oil executives that if they put a billion dollars in his campaign, he would repay that legislatively, and he is following through with that quid pro quo.”
– “There’s no gift legislatively that he can give that’s too big for the oil and gas industry, and so trying to decimate competitors of that industry is his way of saying thank you for those big campaign donations.”
– “But this isn’t just about a big reward for the oil industry and those big campaign donations, this is also Donald Trump’s reflexive opposition to anything associated with Joe Biden.”
– “So, some of these tax credits were strengthened and improved in the Inflation Reduction Act that Joe Biden supported, and therefore in Donald Trump’s view they have to go away.”
– “This kind of country-defeating, reflexive opposition to anything the prior regime did is simply going to add to the difficulties of the American people and add to your energy bills.”
– “By some estimates, it’s going to increase the costs on your energy bills by $400 a year over the next decade.”
– “That’s not the total amount of your billโit is going to be just the increase in your energy costs thanks to Donald Trump and these regressive energy policies.”
– “Now, the Republicans in Congress know this is a disasterโin fact, 13 Republicans from the House who voted for this big ugly bill urged the Senate to try to fix it, and in fact, some hoped that Senate Republicans who had expressed at least tepid support for renewable energy projects might weigh in and try to help eradicate these really damaging provisions in the bill.”
– “But although there was some watering down of them, they still are repealing these tax credits that are going to drive up energy costs.”
– “But it’s not this aloneโthat would be bad enough from a climate change point of view, bad enough from a cost on your energy bill point of view, but the Trump administration is also firing people at the National Weather Service.”
– “I guess the theory is if there are fewer meteorologists and fewer weather reports, maybe you won’t notice that it’s 120 degrees outside, or maybe you won’t notice that there’s a tornado coming through your town.”
– “Well, that’s absurd. The effect of this, though, will be less warning of atmospheric rivers, less warning of tornadoes, less warning of the severity of hurricanes if we’re degrading the National Weather Service.”
– “They’re also laying people off at the Forest Service and the Park Service, and the effects there are going to be deleterious when it comes to our efforts to fight fires, for example, because a lot of the personnel they’re laying offโhundreds and hundreds of themโare folks that are there to help out when there are fires to put down these fires.”
– “So, what the Trump administration is doing is they’re going to make your summer hotter, they’re going to make all the summers in the future hotter, they’re going to make your bills go up further, they’re going to make us more reliant on the oil and gas that is killing us and killing the planet, and they’re simply going to reward oil executives for campaign contributions instead of looking after the interests of the American people.”
– “For a President who promised to lower costs, your costs are going to go up dramatically. They might as well add a line item to your utility bill showing that these additional hundreds on your bill are owing to Donald Trump’s reflexive opposition to any form of renewable energy.”
– “If we’re serious about fighting climate change, if we’re serious about bringing down energy costs, we’re going to need a bigger investment in renewable energy, a bigger investment in solar, a bigger investment in wind, a bigger investment in geothermalโwe can’t be thinking small, we certainly can’t be going backwards.”
– “We need to think much bigger. We need to think, well, like this guy.”
– “You’re going to need a bigger boat.”
