Rafael Devers went from crushing a home run for the Red Sox to help secure the series sweep against the Yankees on Sunday to being shipped to San Francisco in a matter of hours.
Though Devers and Boston had their issues, the timing of the trade was shocking.
The move was so sudden after Sunday’s game that the Yankees hadn’t even touched down from their flight home — the news broke to them at 30,000 feet.
“I was surprised, I wasn’t expecting to see that,” catcher Austin Wells said before Monday’s game against the Angels. “Definitely after we just played them.”
