President Trump tells the story of how his parents discovered his musical talents as a young boy:
Question: “When you were a little boy, you were found to be a musical genius, right?”
Trump: “That’s right. They said, well, my father and mother took me to a place, like an aptitude place, to see what I would be good at, what I liked, and what my talent was. At pretty young age, probably 11 or 12. And I went through this process for a couple of days, and they came up to my father and they said, ‘Your son is brilliant at music. He’d be an incredible musician.’ This is not what my father wanted to hear. [laughs]”
Question: “Did you have a plan instrument?”
Trump: “I played, like, for very short periods of time—the flute. Can you believe it? I had flute lessons. It’s the first person that’s ever asked me that question. Yeah, I had flute. Can you believe it? I could’ve been a flutist. I didn’t particularly like it. It wasn’t for me. And my mother had me with—had instructors, an instructor come in to teach me how to play the flute. Can you believe it? Who would think that? An unusual instrument. You could maybe still do it.”
Question: “Do you think you could still do it?”
Trump: “I doubt it. I don’t think so.”
